I asked her how to get to the city center from Madrid airport as we waited in queue before boarding the plane in Budapest. She was a 25 year old journalist, “unemployed like everyone in Spain at the moment”. I told her I was going to travel South America while working online. She said I had to take the time to explore Spain at some point. I said I would include Spain in my motorbike tour of Europe once I’m done with South America. What a life, she said.
What a life indeed.
I get to experience the vibrant cultures and explore the amazing places of South America and do my work as usual at the same time. Few people can afford themselves this level of freedom. I feel lucky.
Ecuador is my first destination. I have no idea what to expect. I didn’t do much research. Partly out of laziness, but more so because I just want to let the experience hit me in the face.
All my belongings fit into a carry on bag, which feels surprisingly liberating. I wonder what I will be missing first from my old life. I doubt that it’d be any of the truck load of stuff I didn’t even know I had.
I have a Saturday night to spend in Madrid before I land in Quito on Sunday. Can’t wait to get rocking 🙂
